Yesterday (Feb. 28) was Yuanxiao Festival, the 15th day of the first month in the lunar calendar and the last day of the Spring Festival. Parks across Guangzhou saw a large number of visitors flock through their gates to admire the traditional lanterns and seasonal flowers.
As of 10pm last night, 66,000 visitors had visited Yuexiu Park; 150,000 visited Wenhua Park; 15,000 Sunflower Garden, 32,000 visited Yuntai Garden on Baiyun Mountain and Liuhua Park welcomed 48,000 people.
The moon last night was the brightest one on the festival night since 1957. On Yuanxiao, it is a tradition for families to gather and eat Tangyuan (sticky rice ball with various fillings); however, in recent years, it has become known as a Chinese "Valentine's Day."
