Local people angle at leisure on the green lane by the Zengjiang River in Zengcheng.
Guangzhou will build six green lanes before the Asian Games open. The six lanes, including Liuxi Creek, Furong Ridge, Zengjiang River, Tianlu Lake, Lianhua Mountain and Binhai Lanes, will have a combined length of 480 kilometers and form a "green lane" network that covers all of the city's administrative districts and county-level cities.
The plan to build the "green lane" network is in line with the Plan on the Reform and Development of the Pearl River Delta Region for 2008-2020. The network will build on the existing greening plan of the region. The plan calls for the construction of six regional green lanes with a combined total length of 1678 kilometers, which will be built from 2010 to 2012, including four lanes in Guangzhou with a length of about 340 kilometers. But Guangzhou has decided to "put in extra efforts" and extend the length to 480 kilometers, which will be completed ahead of the Asian Games.
